Tuesday — 9/10

A full day, on and off the bus. The visit to Chopin's birthplace where he lived for the 1st ten months of his life was a great success.

The house is quite a small, but lovely house on the grounds of what was a large estate. Chopin's father was hired to teach the children, but then he took an offer to teach at an Institute in Warsaw and the family moved into Warsaw. So this home is one of many homes connected to Chopin. It is the grounds that make it so appealing and the simplicity of the home.

Lunch near the town of Lowicz — on the site of castle ruins — possibly back to 1100 AD. Such a wonderful lunch, interesting creative construction of a typical wooden house. Beautiful, tasteful décor. Wife an artist. Husband graduated in city planning had worked in city planning but found the political situation so aggravating, then went into large farm planning, didn't work.

After lunch a visit to the public craft museum. Dull and some interesting crafts then on to the private craft museum. Rather crude moveable dioramas of Polish...
